Welcome to Mrs. Robb's Home Page

October 10

Dear Families,

Fun Walk
Last week's Fun Walk was a great success! We all had the opportunity to get some excercise while helping to raise money for our school. Donations are still being accepted. You can turn in donation envelopes to the classroom or the front office.

Study Trips
Thank you to all parents that have returned signed permission slips and donations for our study trips and enrichment experiences. Our first study trip is scheduled for October 26th; I will be in contact with those that offered to act as drivers and/or chaperones.

Math

We continue to work on rounding, telling time, as well as addition and subtraction strategies.

Students should be practicing Reflex Math a minimum of 3 times per week, even if they have achieved fluency.  Skills slip if they aren't practiced.

IXL is purchased by the school district as an enrichment program. I will use it in class at times, but it is meant to be a tool for your child to use at home as well.

As I have previously stated, Ten Marks assignments are meant to supplement and enhance the learning in the classroom. "Due dates" are suggested in relation to our work in the classroom.

English/Language Arts

English/Language Arts work continues to be focused on reading informational text. Students have read pieces about people that worked to improve the lives of various groups of people.
Writing is focued around writing a paragraph about the actions people took to end the segregation issues in our country.
Word Work skills are focused upon differentiated sorts to support students' areas of need.

Cursive

Cursive books have arrived! These books will be kept at school. Occasionally, students will bring home additional practice pages if I feel this is warranted.

Social Studies
We are wrapping up our first unit that has many areas of focus including rules and laws. Students have learned about the roles and responsibilities of every citizen as well as those of people that are elected to represent us in all levels of government. This unit empahsizes the role of symbols and landmarks too. We have discussed many important landmarks, documents, and symbols that help unite our citizens. A final goal of this unit is helping students understand risks Americans took to secure rights for citizens; this ties into the work students are doing in ELA.

Book Orders
Fliers were sent home last Wednesday. Please order books by next Monday, October 16th. My class code is GPYLL. You can use this code to create an account. Once you navigate to the site you will have the opportunity to peruse a wide variety of books and resources to support reading at home. With every order I earn "Bonus Points" that enable me to purchase books and other materials to support the classroom experience for your child.

Donations
Thanks to all that have provided donations to support the classroom. The various supplies and books will enhance the experience for every child.
I have added some new books that will support the work students are doing in the classroom.
Additionally, I am in need of some more safety goggles for our upcoming science unit. I have updated my Amazon Wish List with these items. Please let me know if you are able to donate these items so that I can keep my list current.
I will continually update my list throughout the year. If you have the opportunity to donate to our classroom, please check out my list.

Have a great week!

Lisa
