Teaching Through Problem-Solving is a teaching approach that helps students develop mathematical practices and habits of mind as an integral part of mathematics learning.  Teaching Through Problem-Solving (mondai kaiketsu gakushu) is widely practiced in Japan and has sparked the interest of U.S. teachers as a way to build the mathematical practices found in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (“CCSS-M”), such as making sense of problems and constructing viable arguments.
