 Student Acceptable Use of Technology
Throughout the school day, students may have access to an iPad and/or a Chromebook for instructional use. Students are expected to abide by the Student Acceptable Use of Technology policy. Please see the Tech Services webpage: https://www.lgusd.org/techuse/ for more information.

Wearable Tech/Dress Code

Wearable Tech

To prevent distraction, wearable tech is not allowed in the classroom.

Dress Code

The responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rests primarily with the student and their parents.

  • We encourage students to wear clothing that is safe, comfortable, clean, and appropriate for school-related activities. Student clothing must not disrupt the education or be disrespectful of any student or staff member.

  • Clothing must cover undergarments.

  • Sport or tennis shoes are most appropriate for running and playing during recess and P.E. All shoes should have closed toes and a back strap.

  • Hats may be worn outdoors only. Hats with bills (such as baseball caps) should be facing forward to shade the eyes from the sun.

Consequences

Consequences for not adhering to safety and/or playground rules are as follows:

  • Student will discuss the incident with a yard supervisor/trusted adult.
  • Student will be asked to take a break and reset.
  • If needed, the yard duty/trusted adult will inform the classroom teacher of student’s behavior.
  • If the behavior continues, the teacher and/or principal will engage the student in a behavior or "Make it Right" reflection.
  • Parent will be called or notified for serious conduct/safety issues.

Birthday, Holiday & Grade Level Celebrations

The Daves Avenue Staff believes birthdays are a special occasion for students and families. However, we request the school be a goodie bag and a treat-free zone for birthday celebrations. This staff decision was made due to an increasing number of students with allergies, some families being unable to provide “goodies” for various reasons, and most importantly our desire to maintain the instructional minutes we are responsible for.

  • Invitations: As a kind policy, we only hand out invitations at school if they are for the entire class. Most families use electronic communication for invites now - and we have a connection to the whole school so you can reach everyone that way! It is called A to Z Connect. The instructions are here: https://davesavehsc.org/directory.html.
  • If you would still like to provide paper invitations to select students, consider handing them out outside school hours and off campus. Everyone also loves receiving real mail!
  • Holiday celebrations will be kept to a minimum and will be determined by grade-level teams. Room parents will partner with classroom teachers for Halloween, a December celebration, and an End-of-Year grade-level celebration. Connecting celebrations to literacy, STEAM, and PBL is a priority for staff.
  • If grade-level teachers and room parents consider having a vendor during the school day, prior approval is required from the Administrative Staff at least 30 days before the event to obtain appropriate contracts and fingerprinting.
